New cut-to-length, Special Bar Quality (SBQ) bar mill at steel manufacturer in Cleveland, Ohio.
Lake Erie Electric’s scope consisted of the electrical power and control systems for the 300’-long Cooling Bed (including both entry and exit stages), Cold Shear, Moving and Fixed Saws, Quality Station, and downstream handling / bundling machinery, much of which is situated on elevated platforms with the electrical and other utilities and auxiliary equipment on the ground floor below. Electrically, the work entailed installation of 15kV Switchgear and Cabling, 480V Distribution Equipment and Cabling, and two VFD “Power Control Rooms” for powering most of the machinery motors, many of those with encoders. High-Bay Lighting, Auxiliary Equipment Power Feeders, HVAC Power Feeders, and Convenience Lighting and Power were also part of Lake Erie Electric’s scope. From a controls/automation perspective, Lake Erie Electric installed a complete Automation System, including dozens of PLC and I/O panels and interconnected 500+ control devices, as well as an extensive Fiber Optic, ProfiNet, and ProfiBus control network.
